About Us

4WD accessories designed for people who actually drive, not just bold gear on.

You've already heard this one before, but this is kind of the mantra around here. We are here to showcase the kind of products you actually want. The kinds of 4WD accessories that you're proud to have them in and on your 4WD. The kind of products that you tell your mates about. The kind of products that you rely on when situations get tricky.

That's all the selling we’re going to do on this page. Well it's not really selling, but we want everyone who buys this product to know that a lot of thought has been put on these products. A lot of life experience has been had before this business, so there should be some credit there. Let's dive in.

Excuse the grainy photo but a camp our founder did when he was 10 with his school friend, featuring his Pop.

It really did start when our founder was a kid. His dad was always taking him out of primary school a day or 2 early from school holidays to take him camping with Pop. It was their special thing to do together and we guess he just came along for the ride.

His Pop lived 3 hours south of Sydney so they ended up at a random camp site around there. They did snow camps, stinking hot camps, wet camps and everything in between. One of his fondest memories was going on a camp trip to god knows where near a river and it was raining the whole day/night. His Pop placed a stick on the ground so they knew when to get the hell out of there if the water flooding from the river got near the tents. Sure enough by the morning, the water had risen so far that they had to get out of there.

A few years later, he asked his dad (the not much of a risk taker) “how did we get out of there? Seems a bit crazy eh?”. He basically said he had got the Prado fully checked/serviced by a mechanic before, he had a week of emergency food for all 3 of us, he had read hundreds of books and articles online on situations like this. Pop had also a brought satellite phone with them and had told his friends from his town where they were going and for how long. In the background of all of this shenanigans, he had carefully planned for something like this and he was fully in control.

Basically what he was getting at was that it’s always a good idea to be prepared. Especially when you’ve gone for a while in a random remote part of Australia. You really never know what’s going to happen.

And you really do need good equipment with you. It can’t break, it can’t fault, it can’t let you down.

A more recent campsite where our founder and his dad went. Bringing back to good memories.

True North 4WD was created to encompass this mantra. You want equipment that doesn’t just look good, but works when you do really need it to work.

A few key phrases we go by:

  • Reliability over hype
  • Practicality over excess
  • Adventure with purpose
  • Respect for the outdoors
  • Built to last, not built to sell fast

Our story started — quite literally — around a campfire. Years before True North was even a name, our founder was that kid packing the Prado with Dad, learning the hard lessons of 4WDing and camping: plan ahead, prepare for anything, and be ready for the unexpected. It’s this hands-on experience — from boggy river crossings to soft beach tracks — that shapes everything we do today.
